Former minister in court

A retired Church of Scotland minister has been banned from the road for 17 months after driving with more than four times the legal drink limit in his breath.

Gordon Henig, of Galla Crescent, Dalbeattie, was also fined £700 at Dumfries Sheriff Court on Tuesday, but Sheriff George Jamieson turned down a move for forfeiture of his car valued at between £6-7000.
The 64-year-old admitted committing the offence on the Castle Douglas to Dalbeattie Road on January 3 and the court was told that while it was his first conviction he had two trials pending for similar offences.
It was stated that police stopped the car after concerns over the way it was being driven.
