The League Two side and the charitable arm of the club, Black and Gold Foundation, have been using the pitch for key programmes for all ages, including Football Fans in Training, disability football, walking football for the veterans, and female adult recreational football.
The £100,000 funding was granted by the UK Government, who have invested in regenerating 18 grassroots football facilities across Scotland. However, the club will also partner fund the project by another £57,000.
Successful projects have been chosen by the government for their ability to deliver improved facilities in deprived areas, support multi-sport use and increase participation among currently under-represented groups, including women, girls and disabled players.
Annan chairman Philip Jones said: “This is good news for all members and users of the club facilties. The club offer all year round activities with mainstream community teams, as well as holiday time programmes for the local community.”
Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell said: “The confirmation of this major contribution is welcome news and will help replace the current 3G all-weather surface and keep this much-used asset available for use far into the future.
“The success of the games area since it was first completed reflects great credit on everyone at Annan Athletic and their philosophy of operating very much as a community club.”
