The 25-year-old woman had to have a metal plate inserted in her jaw but it had to be replaced after it failed.
In court at Dumfries yesterday, Christopher Stewart, 23, who had been in custody since the incident last October, admitted pushing the woman, punching her on the head, struggling with her and causing her to fall onto the ground to her severe injury at Queensberry Street.
Fiscal depute Gemma Hind said that Stewart had been at the Farmer’s Arms in Thornhill with others earlier in the evening and the victim had also been there at some stage.
All had decided to make their way to Chancer’s nightclub in Dumfries and it was there that Stewart became aggressive towards another man and eventually left.
A telephone call was then received by another man telling him to “come out” and Stewart was outside.
The woman approached him and pushed him away to keep him out of trouble and that resulted in a struggle and he punched her and she fell.
She was taken to Dumfries Infirmary by taxi where she was found to have a laceration to the back of her scalp and the other injuries and she was then transferred to Glasgow.
It was pointed out that the injury could have come from a single blow.
Sentence was deferred to February 10 for background reports.
