Fewer without jobs in region

LATEST figures from the Office for National Statistics show that the number of people in Dumfries and Galloway claiming out of work benefits has fallen by almost 500 in the last year.

Unemployment now stands at 1.2-per-cent, which remains lower than both the UK and Scottish average.

Across the whole of the United Kingdom more than half-a-million more people are now in work, bringing employment to a new record high of 31.4 million.

The growth has been attributed to a rise in full-time jobs.
