Street vendor restrictions shelved by officials

PLANS to restrict food vendors operating outside schools have been mothballed by Dumfries and Galloway Council.

Members of the local authority’s education committee is due to meet this morning and note a successful legal challenge by traders in North Lanarkshire against a ban has been implemented.

In March last year concerns about snack vans outside the region’s schools were discussed and the council agreed to look at imposing restrictions.

At that time 14 licensing authorities had placed conditions on street traders to restrict their operations near schools.

The changes imposed in North Lanarkshire were appealed by five street traders and were argued out before a Sheriff in Hamilton over three days.
