While the political junkies salivate, most red-blooded Americans inwardly groan at the prospect of nearly an entire year of attack ads, uncomfortable political debates and immoderate candidates.
For most Americans, it’s going to be a tough year. While the primaries have just begun, the most popular Republican candidates are Senator Ted Cruz (Texas), Senator Marco Rubio (Florida) and business mogul Donald Trump.
In this writer’s opinion, Trump is not the best America has to offer. I wince when I read his outspoken remarks and I worry how other countries will view America because of it.
Please do not judge us too harshly because of his position in the polls. The other two front-runners in the Republican primaries are also very rightwing (particularly Cruz).
On the Democratic side, the race for the ticket is down to two: Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Senator Bernie Sanders (Vermont).
So far, none of the candidates are a fair representation of my middle-of-the-road politics.
Of course, the show’s not over yet. The candidates still have more than 250 days to try to change my mind.
