Fourteen-year-old Polly Henderson from Castle Douglas has been chosen to feature in the Female Riders Race Team — a girls’ cross-country, downhill and enduro mountain biking (MTB) team.
Set to launch in 2016, it will promote, support and assist a talented group of up-and-coming female riders to race competitively in the UK and worldwide,
A statement said: “We want to enhance the buzz around the growing female MTB racing scene and look to bridge the gap between the top elite riders and the rest of the pack.
“Our long-term aim is to grow the youth-side of the team to create a development platform to grow skills and enthusiasm for racing.”
The team comprises Roz Newman as team captain along with Bex Baraona, 12; Elena Melton, 18; and 14-year-olds Ellen Flewitt and Polly Henderson.
Polly had a good number of wins in the Scottish Power Mini DH Series, Scottish XC and Nutcracker Enduro Series.
This season she has taken part in all of the British National XC Series and the British XC Championships, most of the SXC Series and the Nutcracker Series, a few PMBA enduro races and the Muckmedden Series, and the Scottish Power Series — finishing with the final at the World Cup weekend in Fort William.
In September Polly hopes to be picked for Scotland to race in the British Inter Regional XC Championships.
