Spring snowfall alert on region's roads

POLICE in Dumfries and Galloway have warned of possible weather hazards on roads in the region on Thursday night into Friday morning.

It follows a Met Office yellow warning for snow at times in mainly higher parts of the region.

A Police Scotland spokesman at Dumfries stated that a spell of persistent and, at times, heavy snow was expected until 3pm on Friday.

He said: “Accumulations of 5-10 cm are likely above about 100m with 15cm or more possible above 200m.

“At lower levels and near coasts an uncertain mix of rain and snow is expected, with rain likely to predominate, bringing the risk of standing water on roads. Please be aware of the risk of dangerous driving conditions and disruption to transport.”
