£24k hospital car takes to road

VOLUNTEER drivers from the Dumfries Branch of the Order of St John gathered round the new £26,000 ambulance car which they will use to transport cancer patients from all over Dumfries and Galloway to Glasgow and Edinburgh for appointments and treatment.

The vehicle – a four wheel drive Ford Galaxy – was provided by the Order of St John but the local branch will have to fund-raise and rely on donations to keep it on the road.

Anne Twiname, back left,  who co-ordinates the transport said: “This  is a free service which we run for the benefit of cancer patients from our region and the fact this is a four-wheel drive vehicle should make it easier to transport patients from more remote parts of the region, especially in winter conditions “
