Lockerbie rides out come rain or shine

FREAK weather saw the sun shine on Lockerbie Gala and ROM’s first ride-out of the season as well as storm clouds thunder.

Rain, sun and thunder all featured at last Sunday’s Burnswark ride-out.

This was the first official outing for elected Cornet Taylor Edwards, his Lass Mary Ann Bell-Irving and Standard Bearer David Kennedy.

Speaking afterwards, Taylor said: “It was a fantastic ride-out that had some tremendous support on horseback and foot.

“We had some great gallops and everyone who rode has complimented how well the ride-out went as well as how good the route was.”

He added: “I’d just like to thank the Gala and ROM committees, townspeople and everyone who came to support from neighbouring towns. It really does mean a lot to David, Mary-Ann and I.”

And the fun continued on Monday night when a ride-out to New Gardens took place.

The Monday night event was made doubly special with a cyclists’ ride-out also taking place – the first of its kind.

Ride-outs continue tonight with the Queen’s Hotel ride-out leaving the auction market at 6.30 pm.

And the Gala organised Songs of Praise takes place on Sunday at the Dryfesdale Church.
