28 charged with drugs offences at music festival

POLICE have expressed disappointment after 28 people were caught in possession of drugs on day one this weekend's Eden Festival in Dumfriesshire.

Divisional Commander Gary Ritchie pointed out that those involved were ignoring a ‘stringent anti-drugs policy’ set out by the organisers of the popular music event near Moffat.

He said: “Our policing operation is fully in support of the organiser’s desire to maintain the character of the Eden Festival as a family-friendly event and ensure everyone is kept safe.”

Police Scotland have confirmed that the 28 arrested have been charged with possession of drugs offences.

A statement issued on Friday read:  “Over the weekend we will continue to police the event fully in line with the festival’s policy and anyone foolish enough to attempt to come onto the site with illegal drugs will be dealt with accordingly.”
