Daring thieves broke in to The Queens Hotel on Monday morning and made off with a till.
Police Scotland officers at Lockebie are carrying out enquiries and have issued descriptions of two men who were seen at the hotel around the time of the 5 am break in.
Sergeant Joyce Adams said: “At this time it is understood that the till from the premises was stolen, which contained a large amount of money.
“We have been carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area and are keen to speak to anyone who may have been on any of the roads around the hotel at this time.”
The first man is described as about 20 to 30 years old, of a slim build, about 5’10” tall and wearing a cap and sunglasses as well as a charcoal-coloured jacket, dark trousers and dark trainers.
And the second man is described as 20/30 years old, of a slim build but slightly broader than the other, six foot tall and wearing a black hooded jacket, black trousers and white trainers.
She added: “Anyone who saw anything suspicious, or can help us identify any vehicles on the roads at that time, should call us at Lockerbie on 101.
“In particular, we are keen to trace the two men who were seen at the hotel around the time of the break-in.”
No one from the Queens Hotel was willing to speak.
