Eighteen-year-old Chris Finnie will wave goodbye to family and friends come August 19 when he departs for the United States of America.
For the Lockerbie teen has landed himself a four year golf scholarship at Odessa College in the Lone Star State.
Delighted, he said: “I am very excited about heading over to Texas, it’s a massive opportunity for me to improve my golf and academics.
“My mum and myself went to visit Odessa a couple of months back and the campus is very nice and the golf facilities are great.”
Chris will spend the next four years honing his already impressive golf skills while studying sports management.
His accolades include playing for Scotland, winning the Dumfriesshire Men’s Strokeplay Championship and claiming the Lockerbie Golf Club Champion title.
The teen, who has a +1 handicap, currently trains six days a week, and is a Lockerbie Golf By Amanda Kennedy [email protected] Club success story.
So much so that the club are hosting a leaving party tomorrow in his honour.
The club’s Lawson McLean is full of praise for hard working Chris and proud of all he has achieved.
He said: “Chris can be found at any time literally on the practice area and he has time for everyone interested in his progress, and he also makes time to help me with the rest of the juniors when asked.
“All the hard work that he puts in is now paying off and he is a constant reminder to all my other juniors at the Lockerbie Golf School of what hard work and dedication can achieve whatever sport they may take part in.”
He added: “He is a credit to the golf club and is a nice, sociable lad with no airs and graces and all the members, both senior, junior and ladies at Lockerbie Golf Club wish him well in America during his four-year golf scholarship in Texas.”
