A MOTOR cyclist who died in an accident on the A710 road at Mainsriddle, near Dalbeattie, on Sunday afternoon has been named.

He was 24-year-old Calum McMorrin of Kirkintilloch, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed for more than seven hours as an investigation was carried out.

Diversions were set up near the scene on the B729 junction at Southwick Bridge on the outskirts of Caulkerbush village and the Kindar Road junctioin at New Abbey.

Police and ambulance personnel were called to the scene after the alarm was raised by passing motorists and residents of nearby houses who rushed to help the motor cyclist.

The accident also involved a BMW car, driven by a 39-year-old woman, who was uninjured.

The motor cyclist is the third person to die on the A710 this summer.

A teenage girl and a 25-year-old man died in an accident near Islesteps village several weeks ago.
