Volunteer charged with expenses fraud

A VOLUNTARY worker with a Citizens' Advice Bureau is to face trial at Dumfries Sheriff Court in January on a charge of fraudulently claiming more than £6000 by overstating his mileage claims.

Joseph Harrop, 77, from Bugbie Bar, Carsluith, is alleged to have committed the offence between April 2007 and April 2015.
In court this week, he pleaded not guilty to pretending in the course of his voluntary work with the bureau at Dumfries that he was claiming the correct mileage on return journeys when in fact he was overstating the distances involved and claiming for excessive distances and obtained £6256 of excessive mileage.
