Family tribute to road tragedy biker

FAMILY of a motor bike enthusiast who died in a road crash on the A77 road between Stranraer and Portpatrick on Thursday have issued a tribute to him.

He was earlier named by Police Scotland as 64-year-old Jim Harvey from Moor Park in Prestwick, Ayrshire, pictured with his motorbike.

Mr Harvey’s family state: “We cannot begin to describe the sense of loss we feel following Jim’s death. At the age of 64, Jim was still living every day to the fullest.

“His love and absolute passion for motorbikes really expressed his personality and outlook on life. He loved the freedom and enjoyed the thrill of the open road.”

The statement added: “While the family are still coming to terms with the sense that Jim was taken from us prematurely, we take some comfort in knowing that Jim died doing what he loved.”

Mr Harvey’s bike and a car being driven by a 70-year-old man from Stratford-upon-Avon were involved in the accident around 11.30 am.

The car driver and a female passenger received treatment for minor seatbelt injuries.

An accident investigation was carried out and the route was closed for around eight hours.
