Lead theft probe

HALF a ton of scrap lead worth £500 has been stolen from a yard in mid Annandale.

The theft took place overnight Tuesday to Wednesday from a yard near Heck, which is close to Hightae.

Police Scotland is investigating and Constable James Wishart, at Lockerbie, said: “Clearly a vehicle must have been used to take away the lead and I am asking for the public’s help to come forward if they have seen anything suspicious in the Heck/Hightae area on Tuesday/Wednesday this week.

“I also have a report of suspicious behaviour just south of Lockerbie where the occupants of a dark coloured 4 x 4 vehicle appeared to be looking for scrap metal at around 6.30 pm hours on Tuesday evening.  Anyone with any information which might help us catch those responsible is asked to call police at Lockerbie on 101.”
