UPDATE: Four taken to hospital after bus accident

A DRIVER and 21 passengers were on board a bus which this morning left the road and ended up in a ditch near Bankend, eight miles from Dumfries.

The accident happened on the B725 road between Bankend and Clarencefield.

The coach was understood to have been travelling from the Annan area to Dumfries and Galloway College at Dumfries.

A window was smashed to help occupants escape from the damaged vehicle.

A fleet of ambulances and four fire crews joined police and some ‘walking wounded’ were described as being treated at the scene.

Four people were conveyed to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for further examination.

The extent of any injuries is not yet known but some passengers are said by eyewitnesses to have had visible cuts, bruises and appeared to be suffering from shock.
