Rebecca Humes, 25, will jump from 15,000 feet in a tandem skydive next month in aid of Lockerbie Scout Group.
She is raising money for much needed repairs to the Caledonian Place scout hall at, a former lemonade factory turned scouting hub in the 1960s.
Primary school teacher Rebecca said: “Our hall is in desperate need of repair and refurbishment and I want to try and raise some money to help.”
She explained that the run down venue requires structural work, an upgrade in heating to move away from plug-in heaters, new toilets and a general make-over to bring it up to standard, the team also want to introduce disability access.
She said: “We fundraise as a group all the time by holding bingo nights, beetle drives, annual Christmas card delivery and lots more. Unfortunately it is just not enough.
“We are currently going through the process of becoming a registered charity with our charitable status application having been submitted.
“Unfortunately until we are a registered charity we cannot apply for grants or funding but hopefully we will be in the position to do so soon.”
She added: “We would never consider a new home for our scout group. Our building is central in the community making it accessible to everyone and holds many dear memories for everyone who has been involved in scouting there.
“We have over 120 members at Lockerbie Scout Group and if we do not have a safe and secure hall, there will be no scout group which does not bear thinking about.”
Currently, the top floor of the hall is used as the hub but Rebecca and the other leaders plan to transform the downstairs into a temporary safe base.
But even this comes with a price tag of £1600 for new flooring, and Rebecca hopes to ear n achunk of this money with her dive.
Rebecca will take to the skies on May 20. To sponsor her, donations can be handed into the scout hall on Mondays between 6 pm and 7.30 pm or Fridays between 6 pm and 9.45 pm.
