Hetland Hall Hotel at Carrutherstown was bought in December by the RAD Hotel Group, with representatives submitting a planning bid which includes extensive changes to bedrooms and more than doubling the size of the hotel restaurant.
A statement from the group said: “Major refurbishments have taken place across all properties within the group to extend, develop and secure future business in line with customer demand.
“RAD plan to spend £2 million on Hetland Hall and have already commenced the internal refurbishment.”
A planning bid for the 30-bed hotel set in 18 acres of private grounds was submitted to the local authority on December 26.
It said: “Proposed internal alterations to existing buildings with restaurant extension to front of building and ancillary extensions to the rear of the building.
“Existing flat-roof extension to have faced remodelled.”
The restaurant area would more than double, as would the kitchen — with an extension on the other side of the building.
Toilets would be added, as well as an extra area for staff.
Changes would be made to expand the size of bedrooms, but with three new bedrooms added on the second floor, and a lift would be installed.
Meanwhile, a fresh contemporary frontage is planned for the proposed north and south elevations.
And as part of the project, every window in the hotel is set to be replaced.
A statement from The RAD Hotel Group said: “With the development and improvement plans including new restaurant, kitchens, function suite and bedrooms, the group will continue to market and develop the business to become a destination hotel for weddings and events, corporate business, leisure stays and increase the restaurant footfall for lunches, dinners, afternoon teas and private dining.”
Employing 450 staff across its award-winning venues, it added: “Throughout the ongoing development of the hotel, RAD intend to secure and increase current employee numbers, at least doubling current staffing levels at Hetland Hall Hotel and become a significant contributor for employment within Dumfries and Galloway.”
