It follows an incident in the Newton Stewart area where a man passed currency which proved not to be genuine.
Police Scotland today warned businesses and the wider public to be on the alert for fake money.
They have issued a description of the man suspected of passing the latest notes in Wigtownshire.
He was said to be aged 50-55, slim build, grey hair, Irish accent, wearing black jacket and blue jeans.
A Police Scotland spokesman said: “The public should be extra vigilant when dealing with cash transactions.”
Last month police in the Scottish Borders, Cumbria and Cornwall issued warnings following similar incidents.
