LATE June is the target for the new 20mph speed limit in Lockerbie.
Community councillor Simon Poole read out an update on when the project is set to begin at Tuesday night’s meeting of the group.
Dumfries and Galloway Council leader and Annandale North councillor Gail MacGregor stated that the council are “deliberately” not going to start any signage works until the Lockerbie Gala season is over.
When asked about how the new speed limits have been received in Annan and Dumfries, Cllr MacGregor responded: “In Wales they got a massive kickback from it but we’ve slowly rolled the new speed limit out across the region. Interestingly we’re getting very little kickback here. Once it’s in place people do walk down the streets and realise just how fast the traffic was going.
“We’ve not had any negative feedback from it.”
Community councillor Roger Claymore added: “The majority of drivers are fine but there’s a few who go up and down in a big cars and they are flying.
“I can’t see many problems coming out from Lockerbie.”
