Police Scotland officers are now appealing for witnesses in a case of sheep worrying on the farmlands at Nether Albie.
On Friday morning the farmer at Nether Albie came across two sheep with serious injuries.
One of the sheep had died and the second had to be put down by a vet.
On examination it appears that the sheep were attacked by a dog or dogs.
PC Rebecca McClung said: “It appears from what we know that a dog or dogs have attacked the flock of sheep during the early hours of Friday September 29.
“A commotion was heard with the sheep at around 2.30 am.”
PC McClung added: “We are asking the local community to help us trace the dog or dogs and the owner.
“The cost of the two sheep is in the region of £200.
“Anyone with any information which might help in this investigation is asked to call us at Lockerbie on the 101 number.”
