Woman plucked to safety from River Nith

THERE was a rescue on the River Nith at the Whitesands in Dumfries on Thursday night.

A woman was helped to safety by members of a Scottish Fire and Rescue Service boat crew in the incident near The Caul.

The Nith Inshore Rescue Boat was also called out and was involved in a search of the area.

Police Scotland say the woman was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for a check-up but her condition was not thought to be serious.
