NEW safety barriers are being erected on the A7 near Langholm after a 41 tonne crane crashed there yesterday.

The vehicle was recovered in an operation earlier today, but the road will be closed at 3 pm for two hours to allow temporary safety barriers to be put in place.

After that traffic restrictions and traffic lights will operate on the stretch of road south of Skipper’s Bridge until full repairs can be made to the roadside barriers.

They were damaged in the incident, which happened at about 5.30 pm on Wednesday. At truck carrying the crane  left the road partially and became trapped in the barrier. The driver was not hurt.
