Woman attacked in her own home

DETECTIVES from the Dumfries and Galloway Division have been carrying out a major investigation after a woman was attacked and robbed in her home.

They have been joined by uniformed officers to carry out a full search and door-to-door enquiries in the Balmoral Road area in Dumfries

The detectives are continuing enquiries and appealing for information following the incident at around 10 pm on Sunday night.

The woman was in her home in Balmoral Road when a man forced his way into the house, assaulted her and made off with a sum of money.

Police say the woman sustained minor injuries in the incident and was taken to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary for treatment before being released.

The suspect is described as white, around 5ft 6 inches to 5ft 7 inches in height, of slim build and a gaunt facial appearance. He was wearing a black zip up waterproof jacket, dark coloured trousers and a black wooly hat.

Detective Sergeant Colin McKinstry of Dumfries CID said: “This was a very frightening ordeal for the woman concerned who was within her own home when she was targeted.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who was in the area at the time and may have heard a disturbance to get in touch with police.

“Thankfully the woman was not seriously injured, however, she has been left extremely upset as a result.”

He added: “It is imperative we find who is responsible and I am hopeful that someone will have information that could assist with our enquiries.

“Whilst I understand people in the area will be concerned, I’d like to take this opportunity that we are working hard to identify the person responsible and would like to remind local residents that incidents such as this are rare.

“If anyone has any concerns about home or personal safety, please contact your local community policing officers who will be happy to provide advice.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101 quoting incident number 3886 of 17th December 2017.
