Fire alert at historic hotel

FIRE-FIGHTERS from three stations were called out after an alert at a Lockerbie town centre hotel on Friday afternoon.

The suspected outbreak was in a difficult to access part of a large chimney in the 17th century historic King’s Arms Hotel.

A spokeswoman for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed crews spent much of the afternoon at the scene.

The tenders included a specialist aerial ladder platform from Dumfries.

A spokeswoman for the hotel told DnG24 that they had called out the brigade as a precaution.

She said: “We asked the firefighters investigate when we spotted some debris coming down into a fireplace.

“Everything seems fine now and we will remain open as normal.”
