The busy route became inaccessible overnight due to the heavy covering being fanned by strong winds.
Travellers were forced to find alternative routes to leave the Commonwealth Village.
Vehicles were abandoned overnight after the occupants became stranded.
Eastriggs community councillor Alexander Graham said: “The council are trying to keep all the main roads open and they are working as hard as they can.
“All we can really say is do not drive unless you absolutely have to and keep following the instructions of the emergency services.”
