296 home plan for Heathhall farm

Social housing provider Wheatley Homes South have lodged an application to construct 296 houses at Catherinefield Farm.

Of these new homes, 234 will be affordable dwellinghouses – including 30 mid-market rent homes, 30 private homes and 32 LivingWell properties for those over 55.

The planning statement states: “This proposal follows on from the previously approved and ongoing development at the adjacent former

Curries Yard site which has provided enabling infrastructure for this development of Catherinefield Farm.

“Wheatley Homes South have worked closely and collaboratively with the design team to bring forward aspirational proposals that closely align with the ambitions of both the Scottish Government National Planning Framework 4 and the Dumfries and Galloway Council Local Development Plan 2.

“These proposals will meet the requirement for much needed social rent housing, identified in the Dumfries and Galloway Council Strategic Housing Investment Plan, across a mix of house

types, ranging from one bedroom properties to larger family homes. “An integrated Wheatley ‘Livingwell’ development, (Wheatley’s) first in the South of Scotland, will provide accessible homes exclusively for those over-55.

“This development will encourage residents to live sustainably, with ease of habit. The contribution of green space to health and wellbeing alongside biodiversity is also of key importance.”

Wheatley had previously held a number of public consultation events regarding the proposals. A small number of objections had been made at the time of going to print.
