A LOCKERBIE pistol shooter will represent Team GB at the European Games later this month.
Jess Liddon is one of a squad of 177 athletes who will compete at the Kraków-Małopolska event, which are set to take place in and around the Polish city between June 21 to July 2.
The 30-year-old admits she was thrilled when the news broke that she had been selected. Jess has just recently returned to the sport after some time away but she has been firing on all cylinders which has resulted in her selection for the event.
Qualification for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games will be one of the targets for Jess whilst she’s there.
A delighted Jess said: “The European Games is something really special, this is one of the closest things you can get to the Olympics.
“To make the team, you need to win a quota place which have been up for grabs at the major championships since September last year.
“So to have performed well enough at the World Championships last year, as well as throughout the World Cup series this year to win that quota, I’m proud of the work I have put in.
“It feels great to be selected, 18 months ago I had just started back after some time away from the sport and if I’m perfectly honest, the thought of winning a quota for the European Games was definitely there, but it felt a little out of reach.
“Contrasting with my thoughts in the last few months where I have felt that winning a quota was a must and it was well within my capability.
“So I guess for me, selection has been a great moment of reflection on how much progress I have made which gives me a huge amount of drive to keep working and keep progressing.
“Europe is a power house in the sport of shooting, so the standard will be incredibly high, with one quota place for the Olympics available in each event.”
