£80k of damage left at forest site

THIEVES and fire raisers made off with thousands of pounds worth of equipment from a forest site near Lockerbie this week — before leaving a smouldering mess of damaged goods, worth £80,000, in their wake

Police are currently carrying out investigations into what appears to be a high value theft and an act of re-raising at a forest site near to Bengall at Birkshaw Forest.

At around 8.30 am on Tuesday workmen arrived at the site to discover the theft of a generator and batteries.

At that time the remains of a re were discovered in contain- ers on the site and to a Daf lorry ‘gully sucker’.

Detective Constable Lee Mo- scrop said: “We are currently carrying out enquiries in the surrounding farms and cottages to see if anyone saw or heard anything which might assist in this enquiry. The value of the stolen generator and batteries is in ex- cess of £7000.

“The value of the damaged con- tainers and lorry is expected to be in the region of £80,000.

“We want to hear from anyone who may have been on roads around the Birkshaw Forest in the early hours of Tuesday.”
