Bus ban for man in sex case

A MOFFAT man who made sexual advances towards a teenage girl on a bus has been banned by a sheriff from travelling on a bus anywhere outside Dumfriesshire.

The ban on Peter Dow, 54, was imposed last Thursday as a condition of bail with sentence being deferred for six weeks for background reports.
He was also place on the sex offenders’ register.
Dow, of Mearsdale Drive, Moffat, admitted sexually assaulting the 17-year-old girl on the Stagecoach bus between Beattock and Moffat last Monday by repeatedly putting his hand on her thigh and repeatedly kissing her hand.
The court at Dumfries was told that the two passengers had boarded at Dumfries with Dow sitting a few seats away and seeming to fall asleep.
But between Beattock and Moffat he woke up and moved to the seat next to the girl.
Fiscal depute Alison Herald said Dow leaned over the girl and put his hand on her thigh and then took her hand and kissed it before again putting his hand on her thigh and then getting off at Moffat.
The girl phoned her mother and told her what had happened and police were called in when the bus got to Glasgow.
CCTV footage led to Dow and when confronted he told police he could not remember what happened.
Sheriff George Jamieson described Dow’s actions as ‘drunken behaviour’ and a menace to young women and imposed the ban to ensure no other women were put at risk.
