Stars turn gold

A SUCCESSFUL defence of their title saw Dumfries skaters win gold at the British Synchronised Skating Championships on Sunday.

IN ACTION . . . the Solway Stars

The competition included over 58 teams, made up of 700 individuals from all corners of the UK who descended on the National Ice Centre in Nottingham.
And members of Solway Sk8ting Club won medals in their respective categories – including gold medals for the Solway Stars and Solway Eclipse, as well as a silver medal for Solway Lightning.
Furthermore, the Stars also retained their British Championship title.
Solway Sk8ing Club’s chairwoman Anne Marie Wood said: “I don’t think we can underestimate what our skaters achieved this weekend and I am sure we all agree that we are thoroughly proud of each and every one of them.
She added: “We would like to congratulate Stars, Eclipse and Lightning for the hard work and dedication which we know goes into achieving two golds and a silver at a British Championship competition.”
Synchronised skating director at the National Ice Skating Association Chris Buchanan said: “The British Synchronised Skating Championships is a highlight in the synchronised calendar; full of exciting skating with the spectacle of up to 16 skaters performing difficult and risky manoeuvres on the ice in perfect unison.”
He added: “It’s a great chance for skaters of all ages to come together and show the country what they have to offer, well done on your achievement Solway Stars.”
The Solway Sk8ting teams, including the young Comets, are now all preparing for the Trophy D’Ecosse at Dumfries Ice Bowl next month.
