On Tuesday members of Dumfries and Galloway Council’s housing sub committee met and agreed to add schemes for Mossvale Road in Lochmaben and Selkirk Road in Moffat to the Strategic Housing Investment Plan (SHIP).
In November members agreed to deliver over 840 new homes across the region by 2021 and since then work has continued with partners identifying further opportunities.
A local private developer has approached the Scottish Government with a proposal to submit a funding application through the Partnership Support for Regeneration fund, which assists private developers offering housing for sale in difficult markets.
The developer hopes to receive 33 per cent grant funding for three projects.
The proposal for Mossvale Road is a medium to long term project which would be rolled out in three or four years time.
And officials hope the project will supply a variety of housing options to compliment a neighbouring site.
Meanwhile, Loreburn Housing Association requested that a new two phase project at Selkirk Road in Moffat be included in the SHIP.
Phase one, with a proposed start date in 2017, would include the development of 20 amenity and supported houses, with the potential to link the scheme to Moffat Cottage Hospital.
And phase two, with a scheduled commencement date of 2018, would see the development of 20 amenity and general needs housing units.
Chair of the housing sub committee councillor Craig Peacock said: “I am very pleased that our partnership working continues to identify further opportunities for affordable housing.
“By agreeing to today’s changes this has enabled us to not only meet, but exceed our original target.
“Through the council’s investment we are continuing to provide crucial housing to those who need it most in our communities.
“Housing is not simply about bricks and mortar and we recognise this.
“Increasingly we need to consider more carefully the wider needs of our communities and provide accommodation to suit their circumstances and meet demand.”
The developer interested in Lochmaben is also looking at two projects in Dumfries.
