Death crash driver named

A MAN from Dalbeattie killed in a smash on the A75 on Wednesday afternoon has been named by police.

Fifty-five-year-old James Penny of Port Street died following the two vehicle collision about two miles east of Castle Douglas at 3.30 pm on Wednesday.
He was the driver of a Vauxhall Corsa car, which was in collision with a Vauxhall Movano van, being driven by a 46-year-old man from Dumfries.
The van driver was taken to hospital in Dumfries with leg injuries.
The 25-year-old passenger of the car was not hurt.
Constable Andrew McCornick from the divisional roads policing unit at Castle Douglas said: “We are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this crash to get in touch with us at Castle Douglas on the 101 number.”
