A gofundme.com web page with a target of £50k has been set up by the Lockerbie Swimming Pool Trust to help the town realise its swimming pool dream.
The page was created earlier this week by the Trust and at the time of going to print only a £5 donation had so far been received.
The trust’s John Murray is hopeful that figure will go up and has every faith in the generosity of locals.
He said: “We have been promised some major funding, but have some way to go.
“Funders like to see that local people are willing to back any project so we are inviting the public to make a donation.
“We have set a target of £50,000 for public donations to assist us with the next stages of the project.”
Enlightening people to what the trust are currently working on, John added: “You may have thought things have been quiet, the idea of building a pool in the area had lost momentum?
“The truth couldn’t be further from that and the last 18 months or so have been filled with a lot of exciting plans and activities culminating in the achievement of several key milestones in the delivery of the project.”
He added: “We have now received, collated and analysed the community survey filled in by local people and this has been used to direct the design for the new pool.
“We were excited to finalise the designs for the pool building, which will be located behind the ice rink on Glasgow Road, Lockerbie.”
The potential demand for the pool is estimated to be 140,000 visits a year and the building will include two swimming pools, a soft play area, climbing wall, dance studio, gym, multi use room and a cafe as well as a generous car park.
