Jail for thief who stole kids' savings

A MAN who broke into a house in Dalbeattie made off with jewellery and watches and even took the children's savings.

The extent of the break in by Danny Stewart was outlined as Dumfries Sheriff Court heard that the householders returned to find cupboards and drawers ransacked.
In the dock this week, Stewart, 27, who had been in custody since the break-in and theft at John Street in December, admitted committing the offence and also pleaded guilty to breaking into a house at nearby Johnstone Drive two to three days earlier with intent to steal.
In addition, he pleaded guilty to breaking into the This ‘N That shop in the town in September and stealing a computer console, a laptop, watches and other items.
Stewart, who was said to have committed the offences to fund his drug habit, was jailed for 15 months.
