Man dies in A701 accident

A MAN has died as a result of an accident on the A701 road in Upper Annandale.

He was an occupant in one of two cars involved in a collision near Craigielands House, Beattock.

Police Scotland say that he was confirmed dead at the scene.

A second man was conveyed to Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary with what were described as serious injuries.

Emergency services, including the Scottish Fire and Rescue crew from Moffat, attended following the accident, which happened after midday on Monday.

The road was closed to traffic and diversions were set up.  It remained shut into the afternoon to allow accident investigation work to be carried out.

Anyone who witnessed the accident or who has any other information is asked to contact police on the non-emergency 101 telephone line.
