The council have become embroiled in their very own makeshift poetry slam with Moffat Community Council.
Last week a Moffat poet, who goes by the name Jimmy McClurg, made his seven verse poem public.
The poem, detailing Moffat’s pothole plague, came to prominence last week in DnG Media’s sister newspapers the Moffat News and Annandale Herald.
Responding this week, Dumfries and Galloway’s communication unit addressed the pesky pothole concerns – also through the medium of poetry.
In reply to Mr McClurg, the council assured that they had a plan to repair the over 20,000 miles of road.
In particular the poem gave reassurance that ‘road closures and temp lights will be up very soon’ and that roads of Moffat would soon as ‘bonnie as the rest of the toon’.
Bob Opray, of Moffat Community Council, was delighted with the council’s ode, he said: “I hope their road repairs are better than their poem, but seriously, a great reply and very promising.”
The poem was read out at Moffat Community Council’s Tuesday night meeting and met with much laughter and applause.
Meanwhile a sum of £220,000 is to pay for essential repairs to Dumfries roads – including resurfacing – over the next three months. Dumfries and Galloway Council announced the works this week.
And they warned that the necessary maintenance will require closures and diversions
