However, the public are being warned that the necessary maintenance will require closures and diversions.
Dumfries and Galloway Council say alternative routes will be signposted during road closures, and that the works will be dependent on weather conditions.
Council officers are liaising with businesses, bus operators, transport agencies and the emergency services on travel management and minimising disruption to services.
Surfacing work was completed at the junction of Annan Road and Brooms Road last weekend, but the upcoming programme of planned works and road closures includes:
Lockerbie Road (A709) – resurfacing, with preparatory work this Friday to Saturday and road closed Sunday from 8 am to 1 pm.
Garroch Loaning – replacing gas main and sewer, with road closed from 6 pm on Friday to 6 am on Monday
English Street at Junction with Hoods Loaning – resurfacing, with preparatory work on Saturday March 5 and road closed on Sunday March 6 from 9 am to 5 pm.
Annan Road approaching A75 – resurfacing, with road closed Monday March 7 to Monday March 14. Access to businesses including BB Body Repairs and Premier Inn will be from Annan Road side of works.
Lockerbie Road, between Balmoral Road and Bane Loaning – resurfacing, March 19 and 20
Brooms Road, between Leafield Road and Clerkhill – resurfacing, with work to be done in two phases, with the road closed Saturday April 2 to Friday April 15. Road closures will be needed for some of the work.
Queen Street, McLellan Street, Cumberland Street, Brooke Street – regeneration works to be carried out in several phases, starting April 4 for up to 16 weeks.
OTHER works currently being planned which will force road closures include resurfacing of Nunholm Road on February 18, resurfacing of Carthagena Place on February 23, resurfacing of Kirkland Road cul-de-sac on February 24, resurfacing of Lochside Road/Alloway Road on March 22 and 23 necessitating three-way traffice lights and sewer repairs on Carrick Road provisionally closing a section from March 21 to 30.
