The latest entry from his border kennels, Hizzy, a three-year-old dog, took the honours in the opening sprint race by a comfortable three lengths.
He led from the first bend to be followed home by fellow 2/1 shot Ross, a four-year-old from Tom and Harry Martindale of Carlisle.
There was also a worthwhile night on the good going Gretna track for Wiggy’s Sky, a three-year-old bitch from Cath Lister of Aspatria, which won by 2.25 lengths.
Strongest challenger was from another Cumbrian entry, Workington-based Park Lane.
Finally, top Scot was undoubtedly Willie Hyslop, whose three-year-old runner Smack had the edge in a 470 metres trip.
He came up in the home straight to take the honours by a short head from Davie Studholm’s Abbeytown bitch Rab’s Girl.
