A club for men is set to become ‘homeless’ as they launch a bid to find a new base.
The Lochmaben group currently meet twice a week on a Wednesday and Friday for a few hours at the portable cabin next to the church hall and the space is kindly loaned to them by Billy Edwards of Rostrum Sportswear.
However, Billy has plans to develop the site, meaning the club can no longer call it home.
Founder member Colin Howe said: “The ‘shed’ is mainly for retired men to come along just to chat, have a coffee or if they wish make use of our facilities to build projects.
“The idea is to socialise people who may be isolated by events such as the loss of a partner, family, friends etc.”
He added: “Unfortunately we may need to leave our site as Billy quite rightly has plans to develop it next year.
“In the past we have contacted various organisations about providing a suitable building and there are a number of empty council owned properties in Lockerbie and Lochmaben which we have visited, that would very much suit our purpose, unfortunately they have not got back to us.
“We are providing a free service in line with local needs such as the NHS and the many Dumfries and Galloway social care organisations, that provides opportunities for isolated locals to meet up, chat and/or provide practical skills and projects for themselves or the community.”
