Home raiders take war medals

A HUNT is on for two men who stole war medals, watches and antiques from a farmhouse — while a woman was inside.

Police are appealing for information following a housebreaking at a farmhouse on the B794 road near to Corsock, Castle Douglas.
The robbery took place between 11.30 pm on Thursday June 2 and 1 am on Friday June 3.
Entry was forced to the house by two men who stole various items of property, including a number of war medals, gold watches and antiques.
DS Graeme Robertson of Dumfries CID  said: “I believe that whoever broke into this house knew what they were looking for – that is the medals, watches and antiques.
“The monetary value of the items stolen has not been established yet but we believe it runs into thousands of pounds.”
DS Robertson added: “Thankfully the householder, a woman, who was in the house at the time, was not injured but she is very upset by what has happened.
“The men responsible are described as being well spoken, Scottish accents, average height and build and wearing dark clothing.
“One of the men was wearing a balaclava and gloves.”
Due to the rural location of the house and the items taken, police believe that the two men would have had to have the use of a car.
DS Robertson said: “It is also entirely possible that they may have been in the area before the break in ‘casing’ the house so I would ask anyone who may have witnessed any suspicious behaviour around the area during this time, or anyone who may have been offered these items for sale, to contact police.”
Anyone with any information that can assist the ongoing investigation is urged to contact the CID at Dumfries Police Office via 101 or alternatively Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Meanwhile, police officers in Kirkcudbright are investigating a spate of shed break-in in the town’s High Street sometime overnight Thursday June 2 and Friday June 3 2016.
At this stage it appears that a Stihl make petrol hedge cutter is the only thing that has been stolen. In total four sheds were broken into.
PC Hayley Stitt at Kirkcudbright said: “Clearly those who carried out these break-ins have been looking for something.
“However, at this stage all that appears to have been stolen is the hedge cutter.
“We want to hear from anyone who may have seen or heard anything suspicious in the High Street area to get in touch through 101 if they can assist.”
