Green light for 8 turbines

PLANNING permission has been given for eight wind turbines in the region.

Councillors have given the thumbs up to the 25MW development adjacent to the Glenmuckloch opencast coal site.
The eight turbines will complement the two existing community turbines erected at the site earlier this year and is part of an overall vision to create an energy park there.
Buccleuch and 2020 Renewables have also submitted an application to Dumfries and Galloway Council to build a 400MW pumped storage hydro scheme at the Glenmuckloch site.
The firm behind the windfarm is Glenmuckloch Renewable Energy Limited, a subsidiary of Buccleuch.
John Glen, chief executive of Buccleuch, said: “There was significant public support for the planning application, with 135 letters of support from the local community.
“This community has played a huge part in transforming Glenmuckloch over the past four years and it is pleasing that the local area will be able to benefit even further from the site following the decision.”
Jobs are expected to be created during the construction and up to £3 million of community benefit will be available over the 25 year lifespan of the windfarm.
