VICTORY . . . MacRebur’s Toby McCartney, above, receives the Voom award from Richard Branson
MacRebur won the prestigious Virgin Voom start up award at the competition finals in London yesterday.
And head judge Branson praised the company’s revolutionary roads surface, which uses waste plastics from landfill, saying “I quite like the idea of driving on roads made out of plastic and rubbish. ”
MacRebur was founded earlier this year by Toby McCartney, Gordon Reid and Nick Burnett, three friends from the Eaglesfield and Waterbeck areas.
In a joint statement, the trio said: “We are dazed, shocked and delighted to have won the Virgin Voom start up award. To get the backing of Virgin and Richard Branson is amazing and we’re looking forward to the future.”
