The Annan schoolgirl had 16 inches of hair snipped off on Tuesday in a donation to the charity The Little Princess Trust.
She said: “We saw one of my mum’s friends at the Riding of the Marches parade who was wearing one of these wigs, and that made me think about it.”
Mum Fiona explains that her friend has been undergoing treatment for cancer, and has been wearing one of the realistic wigs created out of real human hair.
And Sarah said: “I thought about it, and I kinda felt sorry for the kids who don’t have any hair because it must be quite hard if you don’t have a wig — people might make fun.”
With her hair going to make a wig for an unknown child, she added: “It really makes me wonder who it will go to.”
The big cut was carried out for free by Michelle at Lock Stock Hairdressing in Carlisle and the hair has been bagged up for the charity.
The Little Princess Trust receives donations of hair, but needs funding to produce the wigs, with the Latimers donating the cost of the haircut.
Confessing to being nervous beforehand, mum Fiona said: “It’s a nice thing that she’s done, to try and make a difference to someone else.”
