The Lockerbie Old School committee recently commissioned mural artist Lewanna Stewart to transform the outside of the Dryfe Road former academy.
Catherine Lacey, of the committee, said: “These murals, Lemonade Community Murals, will brighten up the Old School building and let people see it could be in use again one day for the community.”
In the spring, Lewanna led sessions with local primary school children and has used their drawings to create murals as well as designing some herself.
Thanks to funding support from the council, DG Unltd, Holywood Trust and Muirhall Energy, who have pledged £750,000 over the 25 years to the Old School project once their Crossdykes Windfarm is up and running, the murals were officially unveiled earlier this week.
Catherine added: “Lewanna has worked tirelessly on the drawing, design and painting of the murals throughout the school summer holidays.
“The Lockerbie Old School community hub committee would like to thank all our supporters and people and businesses who donated wood and paints and special thanks to Lockerbie, Applegarth and Hutton Primary schools for their designs and ideas for the murals.”
And discussing plans for the future of the building, she added: “The committee of Lockerbie Old School Community Hub are delighted with the progress made over the past few months.
“We have been working on a business plan developed from a feasibility study and we continue to work on realising our focus to have a community hub in Lockerbie, we hope to be able to be give more information about the future of the project shortly.”
