Hockey boss wants united body

ICE HOCKEY UK (IHUK) chairman Richard Grieveson believes a united governing body for the sport in the UK is closer than ever before.

The IHUK chief, who is from Dumfries, is to attend the English Ice Hockey Association’s Annual General Meeting a week on Saturday, where he will present his plan for a unifying body.

He said: “My main objective when taking on this role was to create a unified national governing body.
“I have been speaking to key stakeholders, reviewing the structure and developing proposals for change driven by the outcomes of the strategic review, which was undertaken in 2015.”
Mr Grieveson will also be in attendance at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Semi-Annual congress in Paris this week revealing the international governing body’s president, Rene Fasel, is still keen to see the issue in the UK addressed.
He added: “He has challenged me to change and address the current position, so that the UK can finally achieve its potential on a world stage.
“I believe strongly the direction of travel is the right one and thereafter we can move forward together in a positive way for ice hockey in the UK.”
