The staff lay offs follow recent news that administrators had been called in at the Heathhall company, which specialises in the construction of armoured vehicles.
Administrator Mark Ranson, of Armstrong Watson, this morning said: “Following a review of the staffing levels at Penman I regret to have to announce that 35 employees were made redundant yesterday as there is insufficient work available to keep all employees occupied.
“All affected employees have been informed and specialist members of my team were made available to them to assist in the completion of their claim forms. Also in attendance were member of the Scottish Government’s PACE team who were able to provide those employees with guidance and assistance.
“There remain 95 employees on site.”
The announcement has disappointed local politicians.
