And now pet and owner have been reunited thanks to the Scottish SPCA.
Scotland’s animal welfare charity was alerted by a neighbour to distressed miaows from a house in the town on August 14.
Animal rescue officer Jade Cumming said: “This house was in a terrible state and hadn’t been occupied for years.
“I could see a sky light on the roof was damaged and that a cat could have fallen in and would never manage to get back out.
“With the help of a locksmith, I gained access to the house and the cat practically jumped into my arms.
“He had a pouch of Whiskers and a very large drink of water and I was able to return him to his owner a few doors up.
“This was a lovely, happy ending and I’m so glad we were able to help.”
Anyone who discovers an injured or distressed animal should call the Scottish SPCA animal helpline on 03000 999 999.
